World Wide Wanderment

My name is Jon and I am 33 years old. I have just left my job on a year’s leave of absence to travel world and reevaluate what I was doing and more importantly what I want to be doing with my life. I’m not big on definitive plans and commitments, so the agenda for the coming year is a little loose, much to the ire of my friends and family who would very much like to know exactly where I’ll be six months from now, but I don’t know exactly and I’m happier that way.  The world travels are presently just confined to Asia, but who knows that could change.

The loose plan is to start with a couple months in Southern California, specifically Idyllwild, California where my family has had a cabin for more than 25 years and where for the last several years I’ve been curious living there would be like. Then the travel begins with a road trip across the US and parts of Canada to see friends and this vast country. The end goal of the road trip is delivery my beloved dog to my best friend’s home just outside Philadelphia, PA. Once free caring for the pup I’ll be headed to backpack around South and East Asia. India, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Bali, Malaysia and Indonesia… The list is long, and certainly not definitive.Along the way I expect to reconnect with myself and to reawaken parts of myself that have withered over the last ten years. This blog will serve as my complete and total journal for the next year. I may keep an alternative blog for strictly travel updates for those that are interested in my trip, but not necessarily in all my random musings… and for those I’d prefer not read all my random musings, after all I might want a job when I get back. It’ll really just be reposts of the entries here tagged “travel post”, so if you read this, wordpress blog, you’ll get everything and you don’t need to bother with the travelpod blog although it’ll have a pretty cool map of where I’m going and where I’ve been. More than anything it is really just a sanitized and simplified version of anything you’ll find here.
